12/21/2004: "Ocean Commotion Umbrella"
A hand-painted Barrington Brolly umbrella was donated to the Sunshine Coast Conservation Association as part of their silent auction fund-raiser held December 4, 2004. The event was aptly called "Ocean Commotion".

Barrington Brolly umbrellas are individually made to exacting standards.
The frame used in this particular umbrella has an automatic 'open'. The black metal frame has fibreglas ribs which are more resilient and stronger than metal 'u' shaped ribs. Spreaders are reinforced with a series of wires for added strength.
The canopy was sewn using Gutermann thread; the 8 panel seams were sewn twice; faux french-seams encase each rib from the spreaders down to the umbrella tips. To complete the inner canopy construction, hand-sewing was used to enclose each (upper) tip within the french-seam, providing a distinctive clean finish.

An open umbrella puts a tremendous degree of stress and wear on the canopy at the spreader/hinge. Our frames have molded shields of plastic at the hinge/speader point, which helps protect the fabric where it receives the most stress. The french-seams used in a Barrington Brolly umbrella add even more protection to the fabric at the hinge/spreader point, as well as down the ribs to the tips.
