10/08/2009: "POLAR OPPOSITES - A SYMBOLIC 'PAIRING'"
To say I'm proud, would be an unqualified understatement. Barrington Brolly has been commissioned by a group of very strong, committed women, to produce parasols for their personal use, and to also be used as a unique and special fund-raising item.
Who are these women, and what does a USA Army Combat Uniform have to do with this? Well, these brave ladies are the wives, girlfriends, significant 'others' .... of soldiers with 1-360th D Company, stationed in Ft. Bliss, El Paso, Texas. They are with the Family Readiness Group for D Company.
This particular (discarded) summer Army Combat Uniform, which was worn in Iraq, by the husband of one lady, was deconstructed and the fabric re-used for the canopy of one very special parasol. Her husband's Company badges, names badges, etc., which were part of this uniform, were also included on the parasol. The lining of the parasol is khaki Solarweave®, and includes a pocket from the uniform, plus the original (inside) uniform fabric labels.

Others of the Company's Family Readiness Group will also be able to send their husbands' discarded summer uniforms, so they can have them made into something special to them. Surplus fabric will be used for the fund-raising parasols.
Symbolically, the men who wore the US Army Combat Uniforms, will continue to protect their loved ones.
We couldn't be prouder; supporting this unit in particular, and, symbolically, all other countries' soldiers and their families, fighting to protect us all.
