PARASOL FOR A SEA CAPTAIN'S LADY - SOLD/Custom Order

Appropriate colours for the Sea Captain's lady! This silk parasol will be used in a sea-side setting for the period representing 1860 - 1870. The lower edge of the navy silk half-canopy, is raveled fringe. Topping the raveled fringe is a ruffle of the same medium blue silk used for the main canopy. Both edges of the ruffle have been raveled. A navy velvet ribbon finishes the ruffle trim. Closure for this parasol is a wood button and loop. The top of the parasol is completed with a piece of navy silk gathered around the ferrule, and tied with navy blue velvet ribbon.

Mid-19th Century Parasols - SOLD/Custom Order

Three parasols reproduced from patterns originally printed in Harper's Bazar during the mid-19th century. The parasols were a custom order, for specific gowns.

Silk and silk taffeta were used to produce the parasols; velvet ribbon was used as trim.

PARASOL 1 (All-black silk)

Features of the all-black parasol: velvet ribbon braided closure; black fringe under black silk tabs with black velvet ribbon edging; parasol ribs enclosed by black silk lining; push-up mechanism hidden behind black silk collar, trimed in black velvet; black velvet ribbon highlights at top of canopy/ferrule.
