RENAISSANCE PARASOL, WITH A TWIST

A new customer from Kentucky, USA, is looking forward to the 2018 Spring/Summer re-enacting season.  And she’ll be ready, with her reproduction Renaissance period parasol …  but with a twist.   This parasol may imitate the Renaissance period style, but it definitely has 20th century input.  This parasol has a double-canopy.  Both the outer layer and the lining, are the same material – Solarweave(r).

At first glance, the canopy on this parasol, looks like cotton….  but in fact, it is nylon-based, and treated to repel water (for those rain showers), as well as UVA/B rays (for those hot, sunny days).  The result is, this parasol will provide excellent protection to the lady using it, whether it is raining, or the sun is blazing!  Or, on those strange days, when it’s both sunny and raining, all at the same time!

100 YEARS LATER, BROUGHT BACK TO LIFE

Nothing is more enjoyable for me, than to open a shipping container, knowing it’s contents to be an antique frame, in need of some TLC.  It’s quite something, to think that what you are holding, was once held by someone at least 100 years ago, maybe more.

And, handles of antique umbrellas (or parasols), are always a treat for the eyes.  These were accessories that were more than just functional …  they were accessories to be displayed.

With my customer’s approval, I thought I would post pictures of this beautiful umbrella.  The handle needs no words ….

I CAST A SPELL ON YOU !

The sun is lowering in the sky, on a warm day, in New Orleans, a city known for its magic, mystery, voodoo and spells.  Long strands of moss, hanging from tree branches, sway in the breeze, while crickets begin their songs of the evening.  Sultry.  Seductive.  And it all comes together in this one-of-a-kind, very special parasol.  Do you have what it takes to carry this off?  And, just who, will you be casting your spell on?

Black organza, and a fine black netting, covered in embroidered, and beaded branch silhouettes.  And what could be more alluring and downright sexy, than black ostrich feathers, floating dreamily around the edge?  The handle, imported from Italy, has a row of clear Swarovski crystals, that wrap around the handle.

This very special parasol, will be on display, and sale, beginning February 9, 2018, at One Flower One Leaf Art Gallery, 436 Marine Drive, Gibsons, BC.  If you can’t make it down to One Flower One Leaf Gallery, then e-mail me ([email protected]) for more information on this very special parasol.

(SENSE)UALITY, SENSIBILITIES AND BLACK OSTRICH FEATHERS

Apologies for the play on words, as I’m sure that Miss Jane Austen would not have envisaged black ostrich feathers on a parasol for a well-respected lady.  I, on the other hand, am immediately drawn to early 20th Century New Orleans, with it’s gris-gris dolls, potions, talismans, magic and mystery.  Oh, and spells  – – –  the casting of spells!
